Educational programme for children
ART STORIES OF NOVI SAD
2020 – 2022
For more than a decade now, the Gallery of Matica srpska has been conducting educational programmes for children, with the idea of making art heritage and museum more interesting and accessible to the youngest audience, in order to develop a positive bond between art, museums and cultural heritage and children.
As of October 2020, the Gallery is implementing a new educational programme, called My City. Art Stories from Novi Sad, intended for children from 5 to 11 years of age. Educational programme was created in in honour of the year when Novi Sad is given the title of the European Capital of Culture, with the aim of introducing heritage of the city to children and getting them to know more about its birth, development, heroes, as well as its symbols, by observing artworks from the collection of the Gallery of Matica srpska. From October 2020 to May 2022 children from kindergarten and schools will visit Gallery in organized groups and discover artworks and interesting stories of Novi Sad, thanks to the cooperation with Preschool institution „Radosno detinjstvo“, and primary schools from Novi Sad. After the visit, every child will be given, as a gift, a children’s booklet called My City. Art Stories of Novi Sad, specially created and published for the programme.
Furthermore, educational programme is adapted to children learning English and French language, thanks to the collaboration with Centre for foreign languages Soho and French Institute in Serbia – Novi Sad, and the support of City Council for culture. Using the abovementioned children’s booklet in English and French, children will have the opportunity to enrich their vocabulary with new words in foreign language while discovering artworks, stories and heritage of their city. This programme is intended for primary schools and language schools.
As of October 2020, every Saturday from 11 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. the Gallery organizes creative workshops for children, during which museum educators conjure up stories of Novi Sad in a creative manner and get them to know more about ongoing exhibitions in the Gallery. Besides Saturday workshops, there is a family guide called My City, available every day in the Gallery for family visits. Parents, guardians, grandparents visiting the Gallery with their children can discover history and heritage of Novi Sad through role play and different tasks that they can find in a special guidebook.
The whole programme is being realized thanks to the support of the Ministry of Culture and Information of the Republic of Serbia, City Council of culture and programme Erasmus+ KA2 within the project Авантуре учења изван вртића / The adventures of Out-Of-Classroom Learning.
