How do we see today the epoch that marked the end of the 19th<\/sup> and the beginning of the 20th <\/sup>century? What are the similarities between two seemingly different artists – one from Vienna, and the other from Vr\u0161ac, and how did they connect three museums in one exhibition space? The answers to these questions will be given by a new exhibition in The Gallery of Matica Srpska, which has been attracting great public interest since the beginning of the year.<\/p>\n

The exhibition Paja Jovanovi\u0107 and Gustav Klimt. One e<\/em>poch<\/em>, t<\/em>wo a<\/em>rtists, t<\/em>hree m<\/em><\/strong>useums<\/strong> <\/em>will present three female portraits, one from the collection of the Gallery of Matica Srpska, one from Kunsthistorisches Museum Vienna and one from Galerie Belvedere Vienna. These three carefully selected works, from which two will be exhibited in Serbia for the first time, point to the similarities and differences between great artists, talk about the social context in which they were created and, at the same time, connect three museum collections they belong to. For the first time, the works of Paja Jovanovi\u0107 and Gustav Klimt will be brought together in the exhibition space of The Gallery of Matica Srpska, initiating dialogues not only about their artistic development, but also about the ties between Serbian and Austrian culture in the year that precedes the celebration of 150 years of diplomatic relations between Serbia and Austria.<\/p>\n

The exhibition Paja Jovanovi\u0107 and Gustav Klimt. One e<\/em>poch<\/em>, t<\/em>wo a<\/em>rtists, t<\/em>hree m<\/em>useums <\/em>is accompanied by a trilingual catalog of the same name that includes introductory texts of Maja Gojkovi\u0107 and Dr. Tijana Palkovljevi\u0107 Bugarski, a discussion text by Dr. Sne\u017eana Mi\u0161i\u0107, museum adviser, and “occasionally true stories” by Nikola Ivanovi\u0107, MA, curator in the text called In Oskar Huter\u2019s Hat Salon<\/em>.<\/p>\n

The realization of this project was made possible by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Serbia, the Provincial Secretariat for Culture, Public Information and Relations with Religious Communities, the Austrian Cultural Forum Belgrade, UNIQA Insurance, OTP Bank Serbia and DDOR Insurance.<\/p>\n
