Celebrating of The Day of the Gallery of Matica Srpska, the exhibition Matrix. Monology of Danilo Vuksanovi\u0107 <\/em>has been opened, presenting the collection of matrixes seen through the eyes of a contemporary artist Danilo Vuksanovi\u0107. The author questions the life of museum objects and points out the importance of symbols of past as models for artistic creation at present time, merging and opening a space for uninterrupted communication and connection between past and present.<\/p>\n

Danilo Vuksanovi\u0107, a painter, a conservator-restorer, and a museum thinker, as a starting point of his doctoral thesis exhibition, chose an unknown and not classified collection of matrices from the Gallery\u2019s fund. Dedicated to the life of museum objects, the way they are exhibited  and interact with the audience, as well as to creative processes of contemporary artworks through a dialogue with the past, he created this unique exhibition Matrix<\/em>, presenting his observations, reflections, and perceptions in public.<\/p>\n

Besides original matrices, thematically connected with the history and activites of Matica Srpska, the exhibition displays their reinterpretations \u2013 new artworks created through citation and appropriations. The central showpiece is a matrix of the drawing by Uro\u0161 Predi\u0107, presenting a caricature of Laza Kosti\u0107 surrounded by depiction of famous people (Sava Tekelija, Franja Malin, Uro\u0161 Predi\u0107 i Sava \u0160umanovi\u0107) and by the most representative artworks from the Gallery\u2019s collection (St. Sava with Serbian Saints from the House of Nemanjici<\/em>, Virgin Marry from Sivac Monastery<\/em>, Virgin Marry from Bezdin Monastery<\/em>). The exposed paintings, objects, drawings, animation\/music, installation of the lockers for matrices show materialized reflexive comments, that do not imitate the original matrix as a carrier of image information. These artworks are references, supplements, new readings of old meanings, but also reanimations of secondary forms of masterpieces.<\/p>\n

The doctoral exhibition Matrix. Monology of Danilo Vuksanovi\u0107<\/em> strives to revalue the \u201cunacknowledged\u201d museum collection by artistic means, to reconsider the processes of transmission and creation of narratives and ideas in the museum and artistic context, and to point out by its inter-medial concept that in the contemporary art, sovereign authorship in its traditional sense has actually disappeared.<\/p>\n
