in them, so they would not be forgotten. As you walk through the Gallery of Matica Srpska, have you ever noticed a portrait that resembles your own reflection more than that of a stranger? Some of our visitors have.
In cooperation with the French Institute in Novi Sad, we have launched a project that encourages visitors to find their lookalike in the museum. One of our first participants was Simon Sonbrot, Director of the Institute, who bears a resemblance to the portrait of Jovan Jovanović Zmaj, painted by Novak Radonić. The Gallery of Matica Srpska invites you to take part and help connect the past and the present within the gallery space. Prizes are also provided for the most convincing lookalikes – first place wins a French language course at the French Institute in Novi Sad. The best photograph will be chosen by our visitors, and the winner will be announced during the Month of Francophonie, traditionally celebrated in March.
Once you find your museum lookalike, take a photo next to the portrait and send it to: dvojnikumuzeju@galerijamaticesrpske.rs. The submitted photos will be presented as part of a virtual exhibition within the Gallery’s permanent display.

RULES
As part of the partnership between the Gallery and the French Institute, a competition is being organized for finding lookalikes of the portraits exhibited in the Gallery. Visitors are invited to take a photo next to a portrait they believe resembles them.
Competition dates
• Applications are open until March 31, 2026.
• Results will be announced no later than April 15, 2026.
Conditions for participation
• The competition is open to all visitors of the Gallery of Matica Srpska during the specified period
• Participation is free of charge
• Minors may participate with parental consent
How to participate

Selection of the winner
Only one prize will be awarded for the most accurate lookalike.
The winner will be selected by a jury consisting of representatives of the Gallery and the French Institute, taking into account public opinion expressed through likes on social media.
Prize: The winner receives a free language course provided by the French Institute (21 lessons in an existing group). The prize must be used by the end of 2026.
Digital exhibition: Selected photographs will be presented in a digital exhibition that can be viewed in the Gallery on designated screens.
Announcement of results: The results of the competition will be announced no later than April 15 on the channels of the Gallery and the French Institute.
Consent: Participation in the competition implies consent for the use of photographs for promotional purposes (website, social media, digital exhibition), without commercial use.
